What Is SkinPen?

SkinPen Precision is the first FDA-cleared micro-needling device in the world, clinically proven to safely and effectively fighting the appearance of neck wrinkles and facial acne scars.

The procedure typically involves 6 non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart. You will continue to see improvements in your appearance for up to six months after your last treatment as the deeper layers of collagen heal.

How Do SkinPen Treatments Work?

SkinPen creates micro-channels (microscopic holes) at a rate of 1600 per second. These wounds stimulate your skin, kicking its healing process into high gear. Best of all, SkinPen doesn’t rely on heat or chemicals, so the results are natural and safe for all skin tones and types.

SkinPen’s microneedles pierce the skin, triggering your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and begin to create new tissue. The micro-wounds are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. The micro-wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels which are comprised of rich collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin youthfulness.

How Long Will My Treatment Take and How Long Will My Recovery Be?

SkinPen treatments usually take 20-30 minutes. An additional 30-60 minutes is required before the treatment for the application and effect of topical anesthetic cream to allow for a comfortable procedure. You will be able to drive yourself home after the procedure.

Your skin will be pink and there may be mild swelling for the first 12-48 hours after the treatment. Most patients have minimal discomfort after the treatment similar to a mild sunburn. You will be asked to apply a healing gel for the rest of the day after your procedure. Cold packs are useful to make you more comfortable.

You should not wear any makeup and avoid sun exposure for at least 24 hours after your procedure.

Is Micro-needling Covered By Insurance?

No. Unfortunately, these treatments are considered cosmetic and are not paid for by insurance. You may be able to use your HSA to pay for treatments, however we recommend that you check with your insurance carrier first.

What to Expect After Microneedling

Immediately after a microneedling session, the skin may appear slightly pink or flushed, similar to a mild sunburn. This reaction is a normal part of the healing process and typically fades within 24 to 48 hours. Most patients are able to resume daily activities the next day with only minor sensitivity. Your dermatologist will recommend specific aftercare products to soothe the skin and support recovery.

Post-Treatment Care

• Avoid makeup, sweating, or intense exercise for the first 24 hours.
• Use a gentle, non-fragranced cleanser and apply a light moisturizer.
• Avoid direct sun exposure for several days and apply sunscreen daily once the skin has calmed.
• Skip exfoliating products and retinoids until your dermatologist advises it is safe to resume.
• Stay well hydrated and apply a hydrating serum or moisturizer to support skin renewal and glow.

When You’ll See Results

Many patients notice improvements in skin tone and texture within one week, with continued enhancement over several months as collagen production increases. Depending on individual skin goals, a series of three to six treatments spaced four to six weeks apart often provides optimal rejuvenation.
