Shingles

Shingles, also called “herpes zoster,” is commonly a localized, blistering and painful rash caused by reactivation of the chicken pox or varicella zoster virus (VZV).

It is common in people over 50 and can result in a debilitating condition called post-herpetic neuralgia that can cause miserable constant pain after the skin rash is gone.

Although there is an effective vaccine available, shingles is still a frequent condition. It is important to have one of our dermatologists evaluate and treat you at the first sign of a shingles outbreak to minimize its effect on your health and daily life.
